[NEWS] "Dead in the Water: A Fear The Walking Dead Story" Now Available For Public Consumption

Why miss out? Subscribe to our blog via E-Mail!

First announced well over a year ago, at the start of Fear The Walking Dead's 6th Season, Dead in the Water was billed as the tale of why the Submarine was so significant to the season premiere.

Throughout our watch of Season 6 (which, to remind everyone, started in Fall of 2020), the puzzle pieces started to depict a much clearer picture of the submarine's significance, even though we received no further announcements of the series' development until the end of 2021/beginning of 2022. Some of us knew, immediately, what Walter's key was for, right from the first episode which, in the final analysis, was an interesting and ominous distraction as we all struggled, week-by-week, to determine how the submarine's nuclear capabilities would ultimately fit into the struggle between Morgan Jones & Alicia Clark et al versus Virginia and her Rangers.

The series was always going to be an AMC+ exclusive, but as the 6th Season came to a close (and Spring of 2021 rolled into Summer), we still received no further updates since the initial announcement made close to a year prior. Google News searches still only pulled up articles from the initial announcement and all that could be found in a general search pulled up speculation on what the series would even contain, let alone whether it was really even in development. So imagine our collective surprise when AMC+ finally released Dead in the Water at the close of The Walking Dead's 2nd trimester of it's 11th and final season (during Fear The Walking Dead's midseason break of it's 7th Season)!

AMC+ subscribers were able to enjoy Dead in the Water on Sunday, April 10th @ Midnight, Pacific/US time; however, only a month later/earlier this morning (Mother's Day/May 8th), The Walking Dead's YouTube channel decided to make all 6 parts available in separate YouTube videos. This astute podcaster would've simply shared a link to the playlist containing all six episodes, had the YouTube channel bothered to create one. So, instead, we're behooved to provide you with all six parts embedded within this humble blog of ours.

Please enjoy Dead in the Water: A Fear The Walking Dead Story

[NEWS] San Diego #ComicConAtHome: #TWDUniverse Highlights

Why miss out? Subscribe to our blog via E-Mail!

To say that the year 2020 CE hasn't been the best year is quite a mixed bag of a statement. As an understatement and in the immediate, most of the world's inhabitants are under lock-down conditions, our logistics services are overrun, our healthcare system is under duress, and the economy is tanking as large handfuls of the population either cannot work or have lost their businesses. But I say "a mixed bag" because, in an ever-so globally interconnected internet age, humanity has somehow succeeded in maintaining a best-effort form of normalcy; that is to say, if any an era for a pandemic to hit mankind, why not one where - although we may be physically isolated - we've never been more connected to one another. Governments and charitable organizations have stepped up so that almost no one goes hungry, most folks have been able to somehow pay rent and bills or at least work out arrangements to muddle through, and the businesses that can remain open are doing their darnedest to honor their commitments to their employees as well as their customers. This writer is in no way saying people aren't suffering, but if the novel Coronavirus would've hit humanity just 20 years ago (or prior) - my darkest imaginings, aside (which may not even be able to faithfully paint an accurate picture of what that landscape would look like) - I can safely say, at the very least, we'd be much worse off.

In this burgeoning "new normal" - and in the spirit of people finding a way - San Diego Comic Con has stepped up and managed to deliver the heart of the Comic Book Convention experience to the comfort of its constituents' homes. While there are no Artist Booths, Autograph/Photo-Op/Swag Tables, and an overwhelming amount of Cosplayers invading the eye-lines of con-goers, we've been blessed with the panels/news most of us #TWDUniverse fans have been desperate, for months, to consume. And, even in an age of uncertainty, "a mixed bag" seems a more apt definition, now, doesn't it?

The remainder of this blog will be dedicated to delivering you the YouTube videos (embedded) of the 3 panels, along with any news-worthy highlights (with time stamps) below them, to emphasize what we're to expect from The Walking Dead Universe in the coming year.

  • (00:44) The Series Premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond will air Sunday, October 4th, at 10pm, Eastern/US (right after TWD's "Season Finale" and followed by a "mega" Talking Dead at 11pm)!
  • (01:20) Much Extended Trailer for The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Series Premiere!
  • Just planting a flag here: there are so many little reveals of the greater world of The Walking Dead: World Beyond that truly exemplify the show's namesake, from The Day the Sky Fell, to Monument Day, to even explaining the word they use for Walkers, "Empties", which was lifted from the Comic Books (via Paul "Jesus" Monroe).
  • (12:33) Alexa Mansour ("Hope") reveals that Aliyah Royale almost wasn't cast as "Iris", and how that struggle brought them very close even before initial filming
  • (20:42) "Does Elizabeth [played by Julia Ormond] know where Rick [Grimes] is?" 👀
  • (37:42) Not only does Michael Cudlitz ("Abraham Ford" himself) direct an episode on TWDWB, but Annet Mahendru ("Huck") will be working with him on her husband's new movie, "Manifest West"
  • (38:12) Much will be uncovered about The Civic Republic Military (CRM - the group that rescued Rick Grimes, if you remember), as they are integral to the series, opening up #TWDUniverse
  • (43:15) The First Season is completely ready to air (6 Episodes)! Season 2 is mostly written-up.
Just to wrap up, SQUAWKING DEAD's 101st episode will be all about the news brought to us by way of these panels, as well as exploring the few extra scenes given to us by the extended teasers/trailers dropped, pertaining to each series in The Walking Dead Universe.
...But, wait,101st episode? What happened to Episode 100?! Well, our 100th Episode is going to be a very special one that will be all about us, as a podcast. It will not only be an episode of reflecting on how far we've come, but a great way to introduce new audience members. That's about all we can reveal, for now, as we're still trying desperately to put it all together! Your patience will be rewarded!

[NEWS] SQUAWKING DEAD among RadioPublic's Indie Shows to Watch

Why miss out? Subscribe to our blog via E-Mail!

Over the weekend, RadioPublic had tagged us in a tweet:
When we clicked on the link provided, we were surprised to discover that we were among a handful of Podcasts chosen as Indie shows to watch for March 6, 2019.

After getting a ton of excitement out of our system, I have a few thoughts on what this means to us.
We don't have a very large listener base but, among our handful of listeners, ours is fiercely loyal. The manner in which we've been growing this project and with the fluid nature of entertainment in the internet age, our listeners are priceless. An Instagram account can have 10K+ followers but, at the end of the day, a vast majority of those followers couldn't care less about what that account is producing, on a day-to-day basis. Our listeners engage with us, every single day, via DMs (mostly), chatting with us on our Instagram/Facebook/YouTube lives, and even through extensive episode comments, continuing the conversation and breaking down episodes and ideas even further. The receipt of wonderful emojis/comments is humbling and leaves us incredibly grateful, to be absolutely clear, but the engagement and camaraderie is on a level we never could've anticipated and I can't find the right words to express how excited/grateful/honored it makes me feel.
And speaking of humbling, my second thought really goes towards the nature of how we've scaled out the show over the year-and-a-half since we started this endeavor. We've been constantly trying to improve the show, making it more accessible across all different outlets, both audio (placing them on as many podcast outlets as humanly possible) and visual (eventually, going live on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube). Even then, "good," in my mind, was never "good enough." I'm always looking for ways to get people to not only find us and engage with us, but to even be a part of the experience. In recent weeks, we've collaborated with former Talking Dead Ultimate Fan Ashley Weidman, fellow podcasters BMNY DeadCast, and even pulled up Rachael Burt who was just an astute listener/engager/personality who we thought would make an excellent addition to help host episode break-downs. We have day jobs that already eat into our personal lives. Making all of these things possible is a constant struggle for improvement and development. We just plug away, not really concerning ourselves too much about where we really are (yes, we look at analytics, but those analytics don't really tell us what we could be doing differently: you do!). The point I'm trying to make here is that when we receive acknowledgements like this, from RadioPublic, it really allows us to take a minute, look back at what we've done, and appreciate it.
With all of that in mind, this is something I figured out a few months ago, while tackling some bumps in the road in scheduling and feeling out the general direction of SQUAWKING DEAD. I came to the realization that this show, this podcast, was about more than just me, David Cameo, and more about including the hive mind of fellow fans, going down rabbit-holes together and getting different takes from different points of view: none of which are required to be in line with one another, because that would, frankly, be boring. Even different opinions of characters, the often-times hilarious ways in which we express those opinions, are precious currency in the landscape of fandom, and should be encouraged, rather than shouted down. We don't always have to agree, but we can certainly recognize our points of view and, at the end of the day, it's all about the multitude of ways in which we love The Walking Dead franchise.
It's why I say W E _ A R E _ S Q U A W K I N G _ D E A D
