This episode gave us so much to work with in terms of parallels: people mirroring other people and scenes mirroring other scenes. #TheReapers & #TheCommonwealth, more than any other theme, are the most representative of those contrasting themes: The former being the natural conclusion had out survivors remained in the wild ("kill them all") and the latter a result of having the shelter and luck to survive behind walls (preoccupation with the seemingly trivial). There were many bones to pick, but we sorted through them and came out on top - all while having some laughs along the way.
I love the unedited version of this episode. So many mistakes! And, uh, Dave has a few senior moments that we had to minimize! The post show, we go into the development of our Spooky SQUAWKtober Cosplay Contest, so that's a nice bit of behind the scenes! If you want this and more, all while supporting this podcast, head here:

David Cameo:
Rachael Burt:
Sherrandy Swift:
AKA @BlazyGardener

  • The Walking Dead's 11th season titles sound like rock song titles/albums.
  • Sherrandy liked this episode a lot, Rachael had a little more than comfortable beef with it.
  • Recapping our last few episodes/interviews (because we've been pushing out a LOT of content lately)
    • THE OLD WAYS: Watch Party & Q&A
    • Announcing the winner of the Kirk Manley (AKA, @batmankm) TWD (Seasons 10 & 11) Tribute Art Weekend Giveaway
    • You should also check out the interview we did with him in our sophomore #TWDFamily Branches set of interviews, here:
  • Respecting Negan's brutal honesty, while beholding the opposite in Lance Hornsby's lies, and trying to gauge Maggie Rhee's word to Negan, in light of her actual promise that she would kill him.
  • When/Why did Maggie decide to kill Negan? Considering pre-TWD 9x05 time jump. Hershel Rhee kills Negan?
  • Pope and The Reapers are the natural conclusion to these large groups surviving this long. Makes Negan and The Saviors sound benevolent, especially in light of the truth Negan dumps on Maggie.
  • Maggie acting a lot like Alpha? #HateBang? Funnily enough, the masks Negan made looked a lot like Alpha's (and one like Miles from TWD 9x15)
  • Sorting out logistics: the building where Maggie's dead walker people were held and how The Reapers are, in fact, in Meridian (the last successful settlement Maggie had before The Reapers ran her out).
  • -1 Bone to Pick: Yes, matches pre-fall will still strike. Just ask this guy:
  • +1 Bone to Pick: Why do the walkers not see our group from 6 feet away?
  • Dave Rants: Negan's brutal truth allows her to actually have feelings after being switched off for years. By bringing her emotionally online, it allows him to be a real Savior. Or he could just be her killing cheerleader.
  • Yin Yang: Daryl Dixon breathing humanity into Leah Shaw resembles Negan trying to bring Maggie back. Will Leah challenging Pope have consequences?
  • +1 Bone to Pick: put away that damn shotgun, Leah. However, Leah is growing on us. As Leah pulls away from Pope, Yumiko Okumura easily slips back into her old life.
  • Oh Yumiko, just like the coffee table book (and the contents therein), The Commonwealth is establishing something that was never meant to be revived (and in many cases, can't be)! Comparisons to Michonne Hawthorne from the comic book.
  • Remember Reprocessing? "It's the Commonwealth's way!" of getting you to be doughy, doe-eyed members of society after how rough the outside world has undoubtedly become.
  • Fake Stephanie was definitely (may still be?) Commonwealth Military. And Sebastian Milton is amazingly horrible!
  • But who takes on the Rick Grimes role on the TV show? Getting-closer-to-the-comic-book-version Eugene Porter? He might know more than he's willing to say (even to his own friends) about (real) Stephanie Vega.
  • Speaking of Stephanie, she let's us in just a little to her feelings towards Eugene. Trying to unweave the cons-on-cons-on-cons (AKA con-ception).
  • The Hilltop formula redux: Pamela Milton is real dumb.
  • Dave loves the acting of Teo Rapp-Olsson (AKA Baby Milton) and can't wait for all the awfulness to come. +1 Bone to Pick: Fake Stephanie, kill those damn walkers!
  • Why Lance's plan to make Eugene the hero would've never worked. Why it would be great if Baby Milton was in his 30s
  • Father Gabriel's spooky (and potentially calamitous) encounter with his dark mirror Reaper Preacher. Callbacks to Gabie's initial entry into badassdome and why that matters. Mirrors Leah's inability to kill the woman she and Daryl find.
  • Speaking of Mirroring/Yin Yang-ing, check out these two literally mirroring one another:
  • Had Negan not embedded himself with The Whisperers - and Maggie not given him a chance - Maggie might not be able to defeat The Reapers using The Whisperers tactics (weaponizing walkers/guardians).
  • What happens to The Reapers if Pope is taken out? Leah taking on a remixed version of comic book Andrea Harrison and/or Sherry...? especially in light of Daryl being a shadow of Dwight.
  • Carol Peletier doesn't sound like she would have a problem with Leah, but what about Leah (with Carol) in light of the lack of truth between them, at the moment.
  • Dave recreates the scene with Reaper Preacher speaking to "God"
  • The irony of Tomi Okumura displaying so many flyers and posters of The Commonwealth Annual Lottery and why Hornsby might've grabbed him.
  • As King Ezekiel returns to Eugene & Princess, noticing his change in voice: is he playing suzie-homemaker (like Carol) or is he just on some real good drugs.
  • Pope's PTSD running rampant might lead his group to ruin, but will the show humanize him (in light of Ritchie Coster's acting)?
  • #TWDUniverse makes Dave sound like a good person (we know the truth, though):
  • The further we dive into Season 11 (and reach the summit of our knowledge within the comic book) the more exciting things are becoming (kind of like why we love Fear TWD)

At 1900 hours, or Seven in the PM, we're going 11x11 on your asses. This episode introduced a satisfying amount of frustration (we know how that sounds): between the deception wrought upon #EugenePorter (on behalf of #StephanieVega / Shira / #MaxineHawkins), the larger deception of #TheCommonwealth on #Mercer (and Connie/Kelly), and #LanceHornsby showing his cards to #CarolPeletier.
We definitely cut out a lot of hijinks and extended conversations (not to mention rampant technical difficulties - which are hilarious in their own way) in the pre-show, post-show, and even throughout the episode! This is definitely an unedited episode recording you do not want to miss out on! You can stream it, now, and all Early Access Unedited Episode Recordings by supporting us, here:

INITIAL THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS

  • Was this episode boring?
  • Aliza: Eugene Porter's Shakespearean monologue, Connie in peril? And the Oscar goest to: Josh McDermitt
  • Jasmine: A rewatch can do this episode wonders.
  • Why did Shira let things go too far?
  • Rachael: Questions finally answered?
  • Is there an actual Stephanie Vega?
  • #CarolBeCaroling
  • Bridget: Was this episode inspired by Alfred Hitchcock?
  • We see each character in The Commonwealth through the various perspectives of our characters.
  • Sherrandy: The writers have been experimenting with different styles; this episode feels like a spy thriller, while 11x06 "On the Inside" felt more like a horror movie.

BLUE WEEVIL TO TATER BUG

  • Why does Max (Maxine Hawkins?) come to Eugene, at the end?
  • How does Shira know what Eugene said on the radio?
  • How did Eugene not catch Shira in her lies?
  • Was Max caught while talking to Eugene?
  • Was Max in on Lance Hornsby's plan?
  • Similar to Fear the Walking Dead Season 2, with Jack tricking Alicia Clark into letting him board The Abigail.
  • How long has Max been Pamela Milton's assistant?
  • Are Lance, Max, Shira, and the rest of The Plumbers Union working to take down the class divide within The Commonwealth?
  • History repeats itself: widening class divides always leads to revolution.
  • Will Magna join the resistance?
  • Was Max blackmailed by Hornsby?
  • Aliza: Could Shira, Max, and Mercer all be related?
  • Next episode, TWD: The Musical!
  • Bridget: Only Eugene gets catfished in the apocalypse!
  • Sherrandy performs a little Les MisΓ©rables!
  • Did the episode leave the audience with more questions than answers?
  • How long were Eugene & Max been communicating over the radio, singing When the Wind Blows by Iron Maiden?
  • What is Tyler Davis being charged with?
  • Names on the paper given to Connie: Garrett Immel (makeup artist), Ramon Guzman (art department), Kirk Riley (stunt performer).
  • Denise Huth (Executive Producer) was previously used as The Governor's wife and Tom Luse (Executive Producer) was used as Pamela Milton's dad.
  • Connie is in The Truman Show.
  • What kind of document did Eugene actually sign and was it similar to the document Editor Jan
    mentioned Tyler Davis signed?
  • Was Tyler banished?

LANCE HORNSBY FOR GOVERNOR

  • Lance doesn't want the Alexandrians to see the Commonwealth and their communities as separate, but refers to them as different during his confrontation with Eugene.
  • Has Lance been moving people up to gain their loyalty?
  • Is Lance moving people up or promising to?
  • What does Moto's community need money for if they aren't a part of the Commonwealth?
  • Does Lance want Alexandria to be a Commonwealth outpost?
  • Will Moto's arrest tip-off The Commonwealth to Lance's shady dealings?
  • How much does Pamela really know?
  • Does all the opium go to the hospital?
  • 2.5 acres typically produces between 17.6 to 36 pounds per season.
  • Is Lance trying to wrestle control of The Commonwealth from Pamela?
  • Could Lance be a better leader, since he worked his way to the top?
  • Does The Commonwealth even hold (free & fair) elections? Sounds a lot like Tweedism (named after Boss Tweed, who's philosophy was "I don't care who does the electing, as long as I get to do the nominating.").
  • The Hilltop formula: Maggie Rhee to Gregory, Paul "Jesus" Rovia to Maggie, Tara Chambler to Jesus. Comparing these two second-in-commands: Simon to Lance.
  • Aidan (in the chat): Makes you wish Deanna Monroe was still alive.
  • Aliza Standard Time: Aliza leaves us.
  • Cult of Personality takes precedence over a candidate's policy-positions, just ask anyone in the debate between John F. Kennedy & Richard Nixon.
  • Is it harder to come back and re-civilize as opposed to losing it in the first place? Bridget is reminded of the Hatchet series of books, by Gary Paulsen.

GENERAL MERCER

  • How similar are Mercer and Lance?
  • Tyler Davis was being held in hospital room M33, which is the Master Number in Numerology.
  • What if Tyler becomes a martyr?
  • "You Mother Puss Bucket" - Moto quotes Bill Murray's Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters.
  • Michael Cudlitz (who played Abraham Ford) directed this episode!

DETECTIVE EUGENE ON THE CASE

  • Eugene tacked the waffle cone left in his hands the day "Stephanie" disappeared onto the serial killer board
  • The clock hands in the town square are broken, providing an illusion of time or that even time, as a system (like The Commonwealth's society), is broken.
  • Juanita "Princess" Sanchez's imaginary lasagna!
  • As Jasmine leaves us, let's talk Princess: Is she painfully aware of what is going on with Eugene? Bridget & Aidan share how their lives connect with the story Princess tells Eugene.
  • Eugene's Kansas City: World's Best Barbeque shirt is reminiscent of his Virginia is for Lovers shirt in The Walking DeadSeason 5. Also similar to Morgan Jones' Don't Mess with Texas shirt he receives from Grace Mukherjee in Fear The Walking Dead, Season 5.

  • Does Lance see himself in Carol Peletier?
  • Is Lance unintentionally training his replacement?
  • Could Lance be crushing on Carol?
  • Is Lance planning to use the new Alexandria Safe-Zone recruits to enact his plans?
  • Why does Max show up now?
  • What is Max risking by approaching Eugene?
  • Why should Eugene believe Max?
  • Could Max have been banned from speaking with Eugene after falling in love with him?
  • What is this plan's endgame?
  • Are The Commonwealth and the Civic Republic Military aware of one another?
  • Is Pamela the modern version of Gregory?
  • Don't care, where's Rick Grimes.
  • How will Princess react to finding out that Eugene was right?
  • Was disappearing "Stephanie" really as stupid a plan as it sounds?
  • Can an admission of temporary emotional/mental distress be held against them?
  • How Could Max let this happen to Eugene?
  • Proof of economic deflation in The Commonwealth Tribune (Issue 523: which indicates they are 10-years into publication).

In all the years we've watched TWD, we've only come so close to the kind of spooky episode we received this week. Powerful performances delivered by Lauren Ridloff (AKA Connie) & Kevin T Carroll (AKA Virgil). And I think we're reaching an interesting turning point when it comes to Leah Shaw, Daryl Dixon, and The Reapers.
I cannot encourage you to download the unedited episode recording, enough. Since Aliza and I were the only hosts, I had such a lovely, long chat with her during the pre-show - almost worthy of it's own #TWDFamily Branches episode! We barely edited anything out of the episode and a lovely little post show, the whole of it is pretty short! Download it now and support the podcast! Click here:

  • Watch Dave's reaction to this episode:
  • Did you miss Kirk Manley's Exhibition? We announced the Winner of our Kirk Manley's #TWD Tribute Art Weekend Giveaway last night:

  • Amazing performances with Lauren Ridloff & Kevin T. Carroll. If not for this being the final season, they should've excluded the Daryl Dixon & The Reapers scenes.
  • The knife parallel: Leah Shaw's/Pope's knife is given to Daryl; Virgil attempts to give his knife to Connie.
  • Leah & Daryl expressing their thoughts openly to Carver. Daryl chirped more in this episode than whole seasons.
  • Would Daryl kill Leah if he had to? Would Leah kill Daryl? With whom would either side if their family were threatened.
  • In actual terms, even though we really didn't see it, Daryl and Leah had a relationship. Carver may have "picked up the pieces" after Daryl ran off on Leah.
  • Not wanting to see Daryl with Leah is completely understandable. Daryl went from asexual to multiple love interests: Parallel with Lori Grimes (her love for Rick Grimes even when she moved on with Shane Walsh). And could Leah have run off because she was pregnant?
  • Did Frost rat out Daryl to Pope? How far has Pope unraveled? Comparing Pope's behavior with Carver to Theodore Maddox from Fear The Walking Dead and the treatment of his disciple Riley.
  • So yeah, Frost may not be a double-agent... Most likely. No old world loyalty among military brothers.
  • The only way to hook Carver is to give him some truth, "I'm only here for her." Leah's uncanny ability to know when Daryl is lying to her. Discussing this in the shadow of the Daryl & Carol Spin-Off.
  • The Walking Dead did Enders better than Z-Nation did: Illustrates the acceleration of society's breakdown. Negan mentioning how he would've done things differently is different than his Comic book counterpart.
  • When the Ferals spoiler image going around wasn't so much of a spoiler. Greg Nicotero's visual talent truly shining through. The clever bait-and-switch of us, like Virgil, thinking Connie was seeing things.
  • Connie insisting that family is also found, in spite of Virgil's desire to sacrifice himself so she can find Kelly. Drawing some parallels with Virgil and Michonne (keeping their family close, at first).
  • Will Virgil die? Will either Michonne or Rick show up on any of these #TWDUniverse programs? What about the Grimes children (Judith Grimes & RJ Grimes)?
  • FearTWD's nuke could explain the desolation throughout the kids' journey in The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Also, timelines...!
  • Where do you think our survivors will end up? The Commonwealth?
  • Is a happy ending possible in The Walking Dead Universe? Also, The Civic Republic Military isn't very nice...
  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan/Negan going down swinging (what spin-off?) and both The Commonwealth & The CRM outlasting the main series. Possibly crossover to FearTWD?
  • Looking back, Terminus cannibals started crazy early: Ferals are what happens when you take Termites to their logical conclusion (eating the dead/Kuru/Wasting Disease).
  • The Ferals might've been teenagers when the fall occurred and how the house eventually became a spider's web, rather than a home.
  • Experiencing a little backstory dialogue between Virgil & Connie when Kelly finds Connie's pad. Attempting to determine (Virgil's and) Connie's whereabouts for the past month.
  • Ominous conversation about King Ezekiel's health/future. Unweaving our characters' (Stephanie Vega, Eugene Porter, Fake Stephanie, and Tomi Okumura) web of lies (and whether they'll have consequences).
  • Yumiko Okumura is impressed that there is someone with the title "governor" in Pamela Milton. Meanwhile, we can't help thinking about Woodbury.

DECONSTRUCT #THECOMMONWEALTH! …From their economic system to systemic inequality (both spoken and unspoken). Dave's obsession with "allowance". INTRO & INITIAL FEELINGS

  • Rachael: Lots more Carol Peletier! Callbacks galore! Trust no one!
  • Aidan (in the chat): One of his favs!
  • Jasmine: Is King Ezekiel preparing for his own death by giving away his possessions?
  • Who will get Dwight’s comic-book death? Ezekiel, Father Gabriel Stokes, Magna, or Rosita Espinosa?
  • Jasmine: Carol needs a project, e.g, revenge on Alpha. This time, a cure for Ezekiel.
  • Aidan: "She hasn’t lost a kid in a while."
  • Bridget: Excited to see the #Carzekiel reunion. Is it a mistake to mash two best friends into a relationship like some want to see with Carol & Daryl Dixon?
  • Never bullshit a bullshitter!

NUMBERS

  • Carol is staying in apartment 19, which happens to be Chandler's & Joey's apartment on Friends.
  • Numerology expert, Rachael, says the number 19 is the sign of a fresh start.
  • Will Carzekiel get back together?
  • Callback: Carol went to (Porch Dick) Pete Anderson to threaten him into helping Tara Chambler in the back half of Season 5.

WELCOME TO THE COMMONWEALTH

  • Is RJ Grimes prepared to defend himself?
  • Jasmine: The haunted house reminds her of the Hershel Rhee storyline in the final issue of the comic book.
  • Rach: Why aren’t they killing anything?!
  • Dave: How insulting is this haunted house?
  • Class disparities in The Commonwealth.
  • Dave: Is the haunted house the equivalent of a too-soon war reenactment in the TWDU?
  • Ezekiel asks Carol if she has gotten word from Maggie Rhee or Lydia.
  • Where are Aaron and Gracie?
  • Is The Commonwealth large enough that we don't see all of the characters in one episode?
  • Were we robbed of a ton of reunions between characters?
  • Carol is willing to play Lance Hornsby's game.
  • What are the consequences for Carol sneaking into the hospital records room?

EZEKIEL SUTTON

  • Ezekiel’s last name is revealed to be Sutton.
  • Length of Commonwealth residency for Ezekiel Sutton: 28 days.
  • Earl & Tammy Rose Sutton with the same surname.
  • Celeste, who won the costume contest dressed as Mercer, is Khary Payton’s daughter, Maya Victory Payton.

THE COMMONWEALTH WAY

  • Are lottery tickets the only upward mobility in The Commonwealth?
  • What is the pay gap between jobs? Baker vs Soldier? Lawyer vs Waiter?
  • We see the previous year’s lottery winner at the Halloween Gala.
  • Can you apply for other jobs in the Commonwealth or are you stuck with what you are assigned?
  • How do children factor into this equation, since they didn't have jobs before The Zombie Apocalypse?
  • Are Mei and Judith Grimes in different classes?
  • What does allowance mean in The Commonwealth?
  • Dave: Mommy Pamela Milton’s allowance to the elites.
  • Do upper class kids get their pick of the litter when it comes to jobs?
  • How does The Commonwealth hospital triage system work?
  • Ezekiel is patient #147 in the cue for surgeries. In numerology, Angel Number 147 means an angel is speaking to you: pay attention! It represents a better future!
  • Is it frustrating that Ezekiel is a martyr?
  • Carol will make sure Ezekiel has a choice.

MEET THE MILTONS

  • Does nepotism affect Sebastian Milton's role in The Commonwealth?
  • Who was Pamela’s glare directed at, when Daryl had to save Sebastian during advanced military training.
  • Parenting: Pamela vs Aaron
  • Who is Margot Bingham playing? Stephanie Vega or Maxine Hawkins?
  • Does Pamela genuinely care about Max or Tyler Davis?
  • Is Pamela malicious or does she genuinely think the system works?
  • Did Celeste win the costume contest because she was dressed as Mercer?
  • Did Max pretend to be Stephanie on the radio?
  • Could Max be the one running The Commonwealth behind the scenes? Is she plotting to tear down the Commonwealth?

LANCE HORNSBY & MAX THE MANIPULATOR

  • Is Lance manipulating Eugene Porter to ultimately manipulate Pamela?
  • Where does Lance’s character go from here?
  • Does Lance want Pamela’s job?
  • Is Hornsby a part of the resistance?
  • Is Lance still trying to impress Pamela Milton?
  • Extra! Extra! Dave only has two thoughts!
  • A tale of two Stephanies: Poor Eugene!
  • Tater Bug & Blue Weevil.
  • Where is Chele Ramos' character?
  • Where is Eugene in this episode?

MAGNA & MIKO

https://whatelseisonnow.com/2022/02/28/a-look-at-the-walking-dead-season-11-episode-10-new-haunts/
  • Can anyone be a soldier?
  • Why does Magna not want to be a soldier?
  • Why did Magna even come to The Commonwealth?
  • What would happen if Magna and Yumiko Okumura rekindled their relationship? Are such relationships, between classes, sanctioned in The Commonwealth?
  • Would you tell Mercer no?
  • Do the classes live in sectioned-off/gated dwellings?
  • The bigger question: who pulls the trigger to put down the character who assumes the Dwight role?
    • Could Aaron or Eugene shoot Gabriel?
    • Might Rosita be killed instead (which upsets Aidan, in the chat)?
  • Mercer protects his asset with his armored butt-plate.
  • Foreshadowing? Sebastian chooses Magna’s war-hammer.
  • Someone recovered Judith’s toothpick, but it is thoughtlessly discarded by Sebastian.
  • Are you not ashamed?! But who will recover Pope’s beanie?

WINE BROUGHT TO YOU BY CAROL PELETIER

  • The bottles on the Vincenti's Fine Wines invoice, Chateau Du Devoument, Ouro Vipra, and Canard De Pluie translate to House of Devotion, Gold Viper, and Rain Duck.
  • Who is at the top of The Commonwealth? Pamela, Lance, Mercer, and Max?
  • Is Max the Gold Viper?
  • Is Lance the House of Devotion?
  • What if Carol were the one to end Magna or Gabriel (the Dwight role in the comic book)?
  • Vincenti's real world address may be located in Dover Township, Ohio.
  • Sherrandy's take: In the The Walking Dead: World Beyond's Season Finale post-credits scene, they mention Primrose heading to Toledo, Ohio
    .
  • Is there a grander TWDU narrative to The Commonwealth?
  • What did Pamela Milton do before the apocalypse?
  • What if Primrose is but a 3rd dimension that serves as the foundation of The Commonwealth? Because what comes after The Commonwealth storyline?
  • What the date on the invoice might tell us (9/11/2010).

GABRIEL, ROSITA, & JUDITH

  • Gabriel & Rosita's conversation suggests that they may not be living together.
  • Does The Commonwealth have a say in marriages?
  • Why did Judith ask Mei for the receipt for the Motorhead album purchase?
  • Is Judith afraid of being accused of stealing or having to owe Mei a favor?
  • Did Judith want to return the record to pocket the cash (since she's living in the lower class with Daryl)?
  • Who are Mei’s parents and are they in the Upper Class?
  • Can Mei be trusted?
  • On what and where do people spend their money?
  • Is Juanita Princess Sanchez's hair sad?

  • We've all felt like Lance Hornsby, entering the gala: when you think someone's waving at you, but they're really waving at the person behind you.
  • Where will this Carol & Lance dynamic lead?
  • Will Carol be able to stay one step ahead of Lance?
  • Shoutout to Melissa McBrideJosh Hamilton!
  • Lance Hornsby time outside/before The Commonwealth
  • What do you gain by winning The Commonwealth Lottery?
  • Is The Lottery an incentive mechanism?

Originally Recorded 2022/09/01
It's telling that this episode premieres just after the #TalesOfTheWalkingDead's Alpha origin story episode: instead of Doc Everett honoring his (more than just?) friend by wearing his face as a #Whisperers mask, he memorializes him by studying him. He does the same to Amy in similar fashion. "People are chaos" and we all have our own, personal ways of surviving and that's never been more apparent than in this episode, which further expands our vista in the ever-growing #TWDUniverse!
The Unedited recording of this episode clocks in at well over two hours: we always have more to say but never enough time to say it (or too much class to allow certain jokes to remain in the final edit)! • Aidan's Aside: As all of the hosts kind of rally against seeing more origin stories, I would be remise if I didn't mention a recent article from What To Watch, authored by Sarabeth Pollock (who we have had on our show before), asking the actors on The Walking Dead about the potential of reprising their respective characters in origin stories on Tales of The Walking Dead. I found a lot of their answers interesting. The way Laila Robins imagines what a possible Pamela Milton backstory could look like would make for an outstanding hour of television. I really enjoyed Eleanor Matsuura's vision for a Yumiko Okumura/Magna/Tomichi Okumura backstory episode the most!

  • Aidan's Aside: All of this discussion of Alicia Clark makes me wonder what an interaction between Dr. Everett and Alicia Clark would be like. Could we potentially see Alicia and Dr. Everett meet? Even though Alycia Debnam-Carey left FTWD, it was open-ended, so it's still in her cards (though, she would appear much older after 35 years). • Aidan's Aside: I enjoyed the conversation everyone was having about Emily Dickinson. While I was watching this episode of Tales, I found myself frequently reflecting on the Apple TV+ series Dickinson starring Hailee Steinfeld. I highly recommend watching it. It also features Fear TWD alums, Chinaza Uche (who played Wes' brother, Derek, in Season 6) & Gus Halper (who played Will, in Season 7).

  • Dave compares Everett's study of Homo Mortuus to the way he studied Justin (played by Zach McGowan) in Season 9 of TWD. The opening sequence depicts his corpse being devoured by walkers. Midway into feeding, they suddenly stopped, got up, and walked away. Watching the exact moment walkers refuse to continue feeding indicates exactly when a dead human turns, which was super exciting and fascinating to watch for the first time in this universe.

  • Aidan's Aside: Our hosts often talk about the walker heads being used as a scare tactic in this episode. It reminds me of the border that Alpha establishes, delineated by way of our survivors loved ones heads on pikes, in the penultimate episode of The Walking Dead's ninth season.
